• Goats in the Garden??!!

We were asked by a wonderful couple in Nanaimo if we could help to tidy up their garden, which had been overtaken by thistles, blackberries and assorted weeds. We said “bring it on”.

  • Blackberries vs Goats

We are looking forward to this coming Sunday, April 10, when we will be doing a demo at the Lighthouse Community Centre in Qualicum Bay. Every month the community hosts a Second Sunday market and pancake breakfast, and we will be there working near the hall to clear off some 8000 sq. ft. of overgrown blackberry and salmonberry plants. The best part? Pancake breakfast for the humans! If you are in the area please come by and say hi. We plan to stay until the job is done. https://sites.google.com/site/lighthousecommunityhall/pancake-breakfastIMG_2805

  • A Recent Job in Parksville

We recently worked on a residential job in Parksville, clearing a slope in a backyard of blackberries up to 2m. in height, along with some assorted weeds including horsetail and crown vetch. The crew had a great time climbing around on the hill, and revealed some stonework which had been covered with blackberry plants. The customer was happy with the results and has plans to put a terraced garden on the site.

  • Esquimalt Earth Days

Well, we just got back from a great visit to Esquimalt, near Victoria, to help the Parks Department celebrate Earth Day by tackling invasive plants. We were on site in Highrock Park, one of the many beautiful parks in the Township, and students from neighbouring schools came and helped pull blackberries, english ivy and some other invasives. One of the days we helped in a fenced area, and the other in a pen where kids were invited to feed some ivy to the goats through the fence. It was so much fun to see the happy faces on the students and also the adults that came to help. Many thanks to Rick and his awesome staff for making us feel welcome! Hope we can return soon.
